We're planning to celebrate the life and work of romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge with a walk and picnic on Saturday July 28. Count this as an invitation to join us!
Coleridge lived locally for a time, so we plan to start from his house (marked with a blue plaque) in Church Street, Calne, Wiltshire, at 11am then walk to Oldbury Castle, above the Cherhill white horse. It is a lovely walk, but reasonably demanding with fields and lanes, taking about one and a half hours so stilettoes best left at home. Then we aim to picnic at the earthwork remains of this iron age fort at 1pm. We would be delighted to see people for the walk and / or the picnic if they don't fancy the walk.
Picnickers are also invited to bring along any of STC's poems or anecdotes about the great man to share, if they would like to.
I'll post on the day regarding the weather in case we have to cancel.
